Peter G. Spindler, 90, of St. Cloud, formerly of Annandale and Edina died Jan. 3, 2017, at Cherrywood Advanced Living in St. Cloud.
A memorial service was held Friday, Jan. 6, at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale. The Rev. George Ham officiated. Burial will take place in the spring at St. Mark’s Episcopal Cemetery near Annandale.
Memorials are preferred to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Annandale.
He is survived by his children, Jeff (Jane) Spindler of Cambridge, Wisconsin and Catherine (Dan) Russell of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Andrew, Elliot and Marissa; great-grandchildren, Jaden and Damian; and a sister-in-law, Char Spindler.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brothers, Gordon and Jack Spindler.
Peter Gable Spindler was born July 14, 1926, in St. Paul to Gordon and Janet (Carlson) Spindler. He grew up in St. Paul and graduated from St. Paul Central High School. Peter served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater. After his service, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Macalester College in St. Paul. Peter worked with Cargill, Inc. for 35 years, retiring as an associate vice president. On Sept. 8, 1948, he was united in marriage to Doris Cummins in St. Paul. They raised their family in Edina, retired to Bass Lake near Annandale in 1979; and in 2006, Peter moved to St. Cloud. He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Annandale and St. John’s Episcopal Church, St. Cloud. Peter has also been a member of the Braden Masonic Lodge in St. Paul since 1949. In recent years, he volunteered with CentraCare St. Cloud Hospital. Peter enjoyed fishing and gardening.
