Born on March 7, 1945, in Forest City, Iowa, Harlyn was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who touched the lives of everyone who knew him.
Harlyn met the love of his life, June Steinhaus, when he was just 19 years old. They quickly became inseparable, and their bond grew stronger over the years. They were married for 58 years, sharing a lifetime of love and memories. Together, they raised four boys – Bill, Spencer, Blu, and Wyatt.
Harlyn was a devoted husband and father who put his family first and filled their home with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
Harlyn’s passion for the concertina began at a young age and led to one of his proudest accomplishments–founding the Polka band “The Harlanders” in 1961.
Harlyn dedicated most of his career to painting and retired at age 61. He was always known for being kind, giving, and always ready to help anyone in need.
After retiring, Harlyn loved taking Ranger rides with his wife, June, and their dog, Boogie. He was rarely seen without one of his beloved dachshunds by his side.
Harlyn’s garage in South Haven was a favorite gathering spot for the retired men in the farm community. You could always count on a cup of coffee or a Diet Pepsi, along with the latest weather or crop update from his favorite radio station (1150am) out of Albany, Minnesota.
Harlyn is survived by his four sons, Bill (Rose), Spencer (Deb), Blu (Suma), and Wyatt (Nickie), his nine grandchildren, Erin, Jason, Collin, Aubrey, John Thomas, Trevyn, Devin, Raelynn, and Broden; his sister Rosalie; brother-in-law Dennis Steinhaus; and sister-in-law Myra Steere.
He was preceded in death by his wife, June Pannhoff, parents William and Kathryn Pannhoff, sister Bonnie Pannhoff, father-in-law Ruben Steinhaus, mother-in-law Amy Steinhaus, and brother-in-law Roger.
Harlyn’s legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His family and friends will miss him dearly but take comfort in knowing that Harlyn went home with the lord.
