William C. ‘Bill’ Halek

Attention Local Insulators #34. William C. “Bill” Halek, age 85, of Plymouth, formerly of Annandale passed away peacefully in the loving care of his family on July 13, 2020, after a short courageous battle with cancer. Preceded in death by parents, Michael and Caroline Halek; brother, Charles; daughter, Shawn Nelson. Survived by loving wife, Sharon of 43 years; children, Scott Halek, Jeffery Nelson, Todd Halek, Michael Nelson, and Alisa (Aaron) Halek-Schoenack; grandchiIdren, Tarisa (Nate), Zach (Anna) Rynders, Tyler (Kayce), Grant, Erica, Madelyn, Aiden; great-granddaughter, Vera; siblings, James (Kathleen) Halek, Marilyn (Donald) Johnson and Michael Halek Jr. (Virginia); nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Bill graduated from DeLasalle High School in 1953. He entered the Army in 1954 where he served proudly, Following his time in the Army, Bill worked as a pipecoverer and was a member of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers Local #34. He was the former owner of the Retreat Supper Club in McGregor. Proud owner of Halek’s Bar in North Mpls for 38 years where he proudly sponsored many sports teams. Bill was a businessman who truly cared about his customers. Bill’s children and grandchildren were the love of his life. He enjoyed many travels around the world with his wife Sharon. His three favorite places were Mazatlan, the Virgin Islands and Hong Kong where they made many repeat travels. Bill was a longtime member of MSRA (Minnesota Street Rod Association) and Kustom Kemps of America. He had a love of old cars, especially Mercurys. He restored and customized his 1951 Mercury “Halek’s Comet.” Private interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation Friday, July 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Washburn-McReavy Glen Haven Chapel, 5125 W. Broadway, Crystal. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, July 25, at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Anne, 20D Hamel Rd., Hamel. Social distancing and masks will be required.
