Deloris (Hanebuth) Lachowitzer

Deloris Darlene (Hanebuth) Lachowitzer, 89 of Ottertail, Minnesota died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020, in Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, North Dakota.
Deloris was born at home on Nov. 8, 1930, in Rush Lake Township, rural Ottertail, to Leo and Ruby (Hein) Hanebuth.
Deloris graduated from Perham, Minnesota in 1949. She met and married the love of her life, Arnold Lachowitzer on May 10, 1950. They were married happily for 51 years until Arnie passed away on Sept. 11, 2001. Always together, they ran the family dairy farm and raised seven children. Deloris worked hard daily to provide the needs of her family: cooking, baking, gardening, canning, sewing and countless other tasks. Deloris loved the Lord and her church. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters for 65 years. As the kids grew and started to marry, Deloris began making wedding cakes. This became a very special and rewarding hobby for her. Over the years, she made hundreds of cakes for family and friends, for many different occasions. If you’ve ever had the privilege of tasting a piece of her famous cake, we’re sure that you’ve loved it like we all have. Deloris and Arnie loved their trips out west to the mountains, houseboat fishing on Rainy Lake and dancing every Saturday night. In 1988, they retired from farming and moved to Rush Lake where they loved fishing, going for drives to check on the crops or look for deer while having an ice cream cone. They enjoyed endless visits from their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Deloris was beyond generous with her home, food, time, hugs, laughter and her always listening ears. A few of her hobbies were embroidery, puzzles, and winning at games, especially SORRY! She looked forward to her monthly Wednesday ladies’ get-togethers. Deloris will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Deloris is survived by her sons, Joseph (Joyce Moore) Lachowitzer of Perham, Jeffrey Lachowitzer of Perham and Daniel (Coleen Island) Lachowitzer of Bellevue, Nebraska; her daughters Linda (Mark) Goeden of Bismarck, North Dakota, Cynthia (Donald) Schmelz of Perham, Virginia (Craig) VonRuden of Perham and Lori (Alan) Guck of Annandale; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; her brother Duane Hanebuth of Kansas City, Missouri; her sister-in-law Jackie Lachowitzer of Perham; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Deloris in death were her parents; her husband Arnold; and her stepfather Edward Albrecht.
