John Burke, 91
John J. Burke, 91, of Annandale died with his family at his side on Monday, Dec. 3, 2018, at Lakeside Oasis Hospice of Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Maple Lake with Fr. John Meyer as the Celebrant. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. Burial will take place in the spring at Caffey Cemetery in Rexton, Michigan. Memorials are preferred to St. Timothy Catholic Church.
John is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Timothy (Donna) of Chaska, Deborah (Gerald) Dikeman of Pine Island and Cindy (Randy) Stevens of Annandale; grandchildren, Tim Burke, Chris Waldroff, Kelly Hillman, Sarah Watua, John Dikeman, Rebecca McCreary, Elizabeth Guest, Eric Stevens and Molly Ruud; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim Burke; and sister, Betty Meisenheimer.
John Joseph Burke, Jr. was born Nov. 25, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois to John and Eunice (Picconi) Burke. He grew up in Chicago. John served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On May 10, 1947, he was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Derusha in Chicago. They lived in Calumet City and Arlington Heights, Illinois and Wayzata prior to moving to Sugar Lake near Annandale in 1996. John worked in sales for various businesses and he also owned his own travel agency and a window treatment manufacturing business. John was a member of St. Timothy Catholic Church in Maple Lake. John had a passion for his work and had a true entrepreneurial spirit. He loved being with his family and adored his wife Shirley for 72 years.
