Marjorie Henderson Steichen
Marjorie Henderson Steichen, 89, of Annandale and Turlock, California passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at the Annandale Care Center where she lived near her daughter for the past four years.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 1, at Sacred Heart Church, Turlock, California. Burial will follow at Turlock Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 31 at Allen's Mortuary, Turlock. Please consider memorial gifts to the Annandale Care Center, or the Turlock Historical Society, Turlock.
Margie is survived by her children, Diana (Ted) Knudsen of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, Dale (Sandy) Steichen of Vonore, Tennessee, Sherry Lumley of Annandale and Mark (Laura) Steichen of Sonora; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Barbara Critser and Mary Bob Martin.
Margie was the daughter of Stanley and Stella Henderson. She was born in Denair, California and then moved to Turlock where she resided for over 80 years. She attended elementary school at Hawthorne and Lowell and graduated from Turlock High School in 1946. After graduation, she worked for the city of Turlock as a bookkeeper where she met the love of her life, Francis Steichen, a teacher at Wakefield. They were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in August of 1950. She continued her career as a bookkeeper and accountant and worked for several local accounting firms. In 2008, she retired from Schmidt, Bettencourt and Medeiros. She was very active in the community including the Turlock High School reunion committees, Turlock Swim Club and Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Margie was a well-respected member of the Turlock community and most importantly, was a wonderful wife and mother to her family.
