Violet (Mikkanen) Saksa, 95, of Seattle, Wash., formerly of Annandale, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013.
She will be remembered at a graveside ceremony at Riverside Cemetery, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 28.
She was the last one surviving of eight siblings born to Gust and Hilda (Rimpy) Mikkanen, of rural Annandale on March 4, 1918.
In 1942 Violet married William Saksa, also a member of a large Annandale area Finnish family. The couple settled in Bloomington after World War II until the 1970s when they retired to Big Swan Lake. Bill passed away in 1991.
In 1993 Violet moved to California to be near the family of her older daughter, Kristin Young. She shared the final five years of her life in Seattle with her younger daughter, Catherine Gorrell.
In her life she enjoyed travel and painting, but especially the company of grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends in the United States and Finland.
