Janet A. Fricke
Janet Ann (Smith) Fricke, 71, of Mesa, Ariz., passed away on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2014, surrounded by her loved ones.
Memorial services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 25, and were followed by a reception. Interment will be held in Minnesota with a memorial service at a later date.
She is survived by her mother, Gladys V. Smith; husband Gerald Fricke; daughters Jody West (Nigel) and Carla Sundblad (Al); grandchildren Tess, Robin and Philip; step-children Tim Fricke (Connie), Gerilynn Dahmes (Steve) and Diane Fricke; seven step-grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren; brother Gary Smith (Carol) and Marie Ellingson (Bruce); many nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Philip R. Smith, and her grandson Jacob A. Sundblad.
Jan was born in Red Wing on May 16, 1942, to parents Philip R. Smith and Gladys V. Smith. She resided in Zumbrota in her early years and then moved to Rochester where she graduated from John Marshall High School in 1960. She worked several administrative jobs while raising a family. She was exceptionally creative and loved to sew, quilt and cross stitch and lovingly shared these skills with her two daughters. She enjoyed shopping and playing cards and games with her husband.
She was most happy when spending time with her grandchildren. Jan loved being in Hawaii, where she was married to Gerald Fricke in November of 1998. Recently they celebrated their 15th anniversary. Jan made many good friends throughout her life, and very much enjoyed her community in Arizona, where she resided.
