Annandale School District 876 Meeting Minutes

Independent school

district 876, Regular School Board Meeting

Monday, July 28, 2014

1. Chair Rieger-Borer called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.

2. Board members present were: Jeanette Rieger-Borer, Katie Jones, Michael Holthaus, Paul Zabinski, Jon Scheer, Alicia Millner and student representative Sunny Jensen.

3. Zabinski moved to approve the Agenda with no additions. Millner seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

4. Committee Reports:

a. Student Council: No meeting.

b. Advisory Committees: No Meetings.

c. Wright Technical Center (WTC): No meeting.

d. MAWSECO: Zabinski reported on the June 24 and July 22, 2014 meetings.

5. Community concerns and comments: None

6. Zabinski moved to approve the following action items under a consent agenda. Jones seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

a. Minutes from the June 23, 2014 meeting.

b. Approval of the June check register.

c. Acceptance of the following donations:

1. $3,700.00 from Cardinal Athletic Foundation for Weight Room Equipment and to be applied to the High School Athletics/Activity Fund.

d. Acceptance of the following resignations: Christina Johnson - 2nd Grade Teacher, Kevin Greene - 9th Grade Football Coach.

e. Approval of renewal of membership in the Minnesota School Boards Association and policy service for the 2014-15 school year.

f. Approval of renewal of membership with Resource Training and Solutions for the 2014-15 school year.

g. Approval of the recommended Health and Safety Policy of the 2014-15 school year.

7. Unfinished Business:

a. The board had the second reading of the new bullying policy. Scheer moved to approve the adoption of the recommended policy. Holthaus seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

b. Superintendent Niklaus informed the board about plans to proceed with the demolition of the 1922 building in the summer of 2015.

8.New Business:

a. Jones moved to approve the following contracts of employment for the 2014-15 school year: Nicole Wilke, Community Education Director - Negotiated for 2014-16. Amy Miller as Dean of Students at AES. Brook Zumbusch as an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher. Felicia Mills as Parent and Family Education Teacher at Community Education. Nichole Seaberg as Media Assistant at AES. Sarah Zieska as Head Gymnastics Coach. Scheer seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

b. Scheer moved to approve the 2014-15 Student Handbooks for each school in the district. Holthaus seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

c. Principals Kuehn and Prom informed the board on allied time instruction at the elementary and middle schools.

d. Community Education Director Nicole Wilke and Principals Kuehn, Prom, and Kerbaugh reviewed their plans for the four day teacher workshop this fall in their buildings.

e. Business Manager Rick Pullen informed the board of the benefits to making a Levy Conversion that would not impact taxpayers that our district should consider. More information will be on the August agenda.

9. Information Items:

a. Superintendent Niklaus updated the board on the completion and budget of the new elementary school.

b. Superintendent Niklaus informed the board that the filing dates for the November school board elections is July 29, 2014 to August 12, 2014.

c. Superintendent Niklaus informed the board of the August MSBA Conference.

d. The reception for new teachers will be held on Tuesday, August 26.

e. The next regular school board meeting will be Monday, August 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the middle school music room.

10. Jones moved to adjourn at 8:45 p.m. Millner seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
