Annandale, Independent School Distrtict 876,

Regular School Board Meeting Minutes

Monday, June 24, 2013

1. Chair Rieger-Borer called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.

2. Board members present were: Jeanette Rieger-Borer, Jon Scheer, Katie Jones, Michael Holthaus, Paul Zabinski and Alicia Millner.

3. Zabinski moved to approve the agenda with the following additions:

6.f. Resignation of Bill Guck

9.a. Moved to 7.c.

Jones seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

4. Committee Reports:

a. Student Council: No report

b. Advisory Committees: No meetings

c. Wright Technical Center (WTC): Holthaus reported on the June 4, 2013 meeting.

d. MAWSECO: Allyson Kuehn reported on the May, 2013 meeting.

e. Negotiations Holthaus reported on the June 5, 2013 AEA meeting.

5. Community concerns and comments: None

6. Zabinski moved to approve the following action items under a consent agenda. Scheer seconded. Motion Passed unanimously.

a. Minutes from the May, 28, 2013 meeting.

b. Approval of the June check register.

c. Approval of payment of building invoices.

d. Approval of membership in Resource Training and Solutions for 2013-14.

e. Approval of membership in Schools for Equity in Education for 2013-14.

f. Acceptance of the following resignations:

Kyle Allison as Varsity Baseball Coach.

Bill Guck as Phy. Ed. Assistant at the elementary school.

g. Approval of the following donations:

1. $1,000.00 from Wells Fargo, to be applied to the Nurse Fund.

2. $100.00 from Form-A-Feed, to be applied to the Nurse Fund.

7. Unfinished Business:

a. Superintendent Niklaus reported on work completed on the construction of Annandale Elementary School in the past month and what progress is expected in the next few weeks.

b. Jones moved to approve board meeting dates for 2013-14. Scheer seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

c. Principals Tim Prom and Tracy Reimer reviewed student safety procedures in their buildings.

8. New Business:

a. Millner moved to approve recognizing and congratulating the following students on reaching the state level of competition in the MSHSL Class A State Track Meet:

Kelly Mendel - Pole vault

Angela Orr - Discus

Elizabeth Schlafke - 3200 Meter run

Teddy Erickson - 800 Meter run

Matt Miller - High jump

Jones seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

b. Scheer moved to approve employment of Hanna Kaufman as high school and middle school science teacher for the 2-13-14 school year. Holthaus seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

c. Curriculum coordinator Kathy Holahan and teacher leader Jennifer Gazdzik reviewed highlights of the 2012-13 Q-comp program.

d. Jones moved to approve the fiscal year 2013 through 2015 Health & Safety Budgets. Zabinski seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

e. Jones moved to approve the preliminary budget for 2014-15. Holthaus seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

f. Millner moved to approve 2013-14 lunch prices, activity fees, and substitute teacher pay. Zabinski seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

f. Member Millner introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:

RESOLUTION RELATING TO CONDUCTING A REFERENDUM REVENUE AUTHORIZATION ELECTION IN 2013

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scheer and upon vote being taken thereon the following voted in favor thereof: Jeanette Rieger-Borer, Katie Jones,Michael Holthaus, Jon Scheer, Paul Zabinski and Alicia Millner and the following voted against the same: None

whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.

g. Superintendent Niklaus reviewed the Education Omnibus Bill passed by the 2013 Minnesota Legislature.

h. Board discussed options for the future sale of the Community Education Building.

9. Information Items:

a. Board member Zabinski reviewed progress on the Reuse study of the 1922 building.

b. The next regular school board meeting will be on Monday, July 22, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the Middle School Music Room.

10. Jones moved to adjourn at 8:56 p.m. Holthaus seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
